Perfect Couples "Perfect Health" Review

Perfect Couples definitely got one thing right tonight. Man caves are stupid.

My biggest problem with Perfect Couples is the insistence to go for the cheapest most obvious joke at every turn. Their obvious desire to appeal to every single possible viewer is making the show so bland typical, I don't know how anyone could like it.

Amy has a shopping addiction and Dave needs to go on a diet. Really? This is your third episode and you're already ripping off The King of Queens? Amy looks in the man cave closet to find Dave stuffing his face with nachos. That would have killed on CBS 18 years ago. I'd like to say you're better than that but you haven't actually proven you are. You better find some edge soon or you're going to lose the audience that watches shows like Community, Parks & Rec and 30 Rock. If those people wanted to watch broad unfunny comedy in the time slot they could just flip it over to S#@! My Dad Says.

Last thing here. I find it unbelievable how badly misused Olivia Munn is on this show. The only time they played to her strengths was the last scene when she was dancing with Rex. She's a natural goofball who happens to be smoking hot. Making her play the straight laced Stepford wife is just terrible casting.

  1. Pretty close to hitting the nail on the head. I actually thought the last 5 minutes were quite funny. The montage of them getting drunk had some funny moments, but the show needs to find a plot beyond just the relationships.

Community is barely about them going to classes, and The Office isn't about them doing work every week, but if all Perfect Couples is about is silly little fights between the couples that get resolved within 24-minutes each week, its going to get old. Fast.

And I completely agree about Munn as well. She's far funnier on her own than any material she's had to work with yet. The Pulp Fiction dance sequence is the first chance she's had to really do anything, and consequently was the best part of that episode.

  2. I'm looking forward to the next 2 or so reviews of Perfect Couples, as that's all that's likely to be aired. The show is going to get canceled. Good thing we don't review Chase. (Or as we like to call it "Caught") Ba-zing!
